Arnold Circus
The Work
An exploration of Arnold Circus was the starting point for the Bandstand Series as a whole. Here the bandstand sits at the top of the mysterious urban mound, created as a by-product of the construction of the surrounding Boundary Estate and the demolition of the infamous Old Nichol rookery. The red rick buildings of Owen Fleming's Boundary Estate form a repeated backdrop, seen through the veil of the trees which surround Arnold Circus. The ghostly figures tramping through the snow may be contemporary, or perhaps residents of the Old Nichol, still trying to work out where their homes have gone.
