The Shop Front

Between 2016 & 2026 I ran a small studio space and community gallery in Margate shared with other creative practitioners on Northdown Road, the high street which runs through the Cliftonville area of Margate, parallel to the cliff top & sea.

The studio space occupied the ground floor & basement of the building which had been a high street shop for the previous 100 years and as such had a large shopfront window onto the street. Rather than a simply offering view of one or two people tapping away at a computer, we decided to use the shop window as a gallery space. 

We had the pleasure of showing a wide range of work and enjoyed lots of interesting conversations with passers by who stopped to look at the material on show. The level of engagement was rewardingly high, and from right across the local community & visitors (this being a tourist town, albeit a resurgent one).
