Revisiting Margate reimagined

The Margate Festival in 2019 saw the inaugural project by Transit Collective. This is a group I co-founded alongside the artist Dominic Rose and the walking artist & tour guide Simon Cole.

For the festival we developed Margate Reimagined - a series of stories about various locations around Margate. For each of these locations we began with an interesting but also slightly obscure or surprising piece of history, and then developed a narrative which at some point veers away from history into fantasy. The point at which the shift is made was left deliberately vague.

We created a series of interpretation panels to communicate these narratives, alongside interesting historical images, and images we had conjured to represent the imagined aspects of the stories. These panels were put on display in the public realm at the various locations.

4 years on, we were invited to re-present this material for an exhibition at a new gallery space in Margate - Ramsay & Williams. We showed the original panels from this project alongside a selection of more recent work from both of us. All the work shown deals, at some level, with the same theme of reimagining.

The show ran from Thursday 20 April to Monday 8 May.
